Leo had a big project due at school. His class was learning about sea animals, and each student had to pick one to study. Leo chose the octopus because he thought they were amazing. But he needed a book with lots of facts and pictures. “I’ll go to the library after school,” he told his teacher.
On Friday afternoon, Leo waited at the bus stop near his school. When the bus came, he showed the driver his bus pass and found a seat by the window. He watched the buildings go by until the bus reached his stop, right in front of the public library.
Inside, the library was quiet and bright. Leo walked up to the front desk and returned the two books he had borrowed last week. “Right on time,” the librarian said with a smile. Then Leo asked, “Where can I find books about ocean animals?”
The librarian showed Leo to the science section. Leo looked along the shelves until he found a thick book called Animals of the Sea. He flipped it open, and there it was—a whole chapter about the octopus, with bright photos and amazing facts. “Perfect!” he whispered.
Leo carried the book to the front desk and used his library card to check it out. The librarian reminded him that the book was due back in three weeks. “I’ll bring it back on time,” Leo promised. He slid the book carefully into his backpack.
Leo rode the bus back home, holding his backpack close the whole way. As soon as he got home, he sat down at the kitchen table and started to read.
He learned that an octopus has eight arms and three hearts. Leo wrote down every fact he wanted to use. Thanks to his trip to the library, his class project was off to a great start. “This is going to be the best project ever,” he thought.
